Blue Hill Public Library will again be hosting the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife’s Firearms Safety Course for hunters. There are two options for participants, either: 1) attend both scheduled sessions at the library, Wednesday, October 10th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and Sunday, October 21st from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, and complete home-study work between the two meetings or 2) complete an online course instead of attending the October 10th meeting, and attend in-person for the second full-day session held on October 21st.

Completing all the requirements takes at least 12 hours, although many will average more. The course covers the basics of safe firearms handling, responsible hunting practices and Maine’s hunting regulations. Proof of having taken the course must be shown with all first-time license applications. Participants must be at least 10 years of age and all minors will be required to have a signed parental consent form, available at the first session. The course is free.

Registration is required and can be done through the library’s events calendar (all must register on the October 10th calendar item, even if doing the online course,) at www.bhpl.net, or by calling the library at 374-5515. For more information about the course, send an email to instructor@roadrunner.com or visit www.hunter-ed.com/maine to learn more or to complete the online portion of the course.
