Fit to a T: A Talk on Osteoporosis Prevention

10/16/2018
4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Blue Hill Public Library
5 Parker Point Rd, Blue Hill, ME, 04614

Blue Hill Public Library will host a presentation on Tuesday, October 16th at 4:00 PM by local physical therapist Joanne MacPherson, “Fit to a T,” about osteoporosis and how to maintain your bone health. The program is supplied and organized by the United States Bone and Joint Initiative, a group of organizations engaged in developing new research and education programs that will bring about significant advances in the knowledge, diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions.

Participants will learn about the prevention, early detection, diagnosis, and treatment of osteoporosis. Though relevant to all ages, Fit to a T is aimed at men and women in their mid-40s to late 60s, as well as seniors and others who have had, or are at risk of having, a broken bone. The program is called Fit to a T because the T-score is a measure of a person’s bone density and an estimate of their risk of breaking a bone.

Joanne MacPherson is a physical therapist at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital with a special interest in osteoporosis prevention and management. She is the Maine ambassador for the National Osteoporosis Foundation. She hopes that public education programs like this one will help reduce the 2 million fractures caused annually by osteoporosis.

This event is sponsored by the library, there is no change and everyone is welcome. For more information call the library at 374-5515.
