In celebration of the coming warmer weather, the Deer Isle-Stonington communities will come together to “improve their worlds” on Saturday, April 16 beginning at 10:30a.m. Citizens will focus on beautifying their own dooryards, local playgrounds, and Stonington’s Main Street, as well as take part in many family-friendly activities.

The day will begin at 10:30a.m. with a clean-up at the School Street playground. Adults and children alike are welcome to pitch in. For those families with children too young to help, the Stonington Opera House will be offering activities including cookie decorating, coloring and more.

From 11:00 – 11:45a.m. the Island Community Center will host a paper hat making class. Following this, there will be a free pizza lunch, courtesy of the Island Employee Cooperative.

At 12:30p.m. the action moves over to the Opera House with a dance lesson from Sue Senecal of Sue’s School of Dance. Community members of all ages are welcome to learn a fun short dance to accompany one of the songs from the afternoon movie.

Opera House Arts and the Island Nursing Home will offer a free screening of Disney classic Newsies at 1:00p.m. All are encouraged to sing and dance along with Jack “Cowboy” Kelly and his fellow newsboys as they fight against the harsh rules of Joseph Pulitzer.
