Responsible for a variety of duties in the Pharmacy and hospital units involving solutions, delivery of medications and allied products to designated areas, pricing, billing and restock of inventory.
Responsibilities:
Demonstrates knowledge of department operations, policies and procedures. Accurate information regarding department operations is provided. Knowledge of department/hospital policies and procedures is demonstrated. Utilizes appropriate resources acknowledging limits of knowledge and skills current resources pertinent to job are utilized. Demonstrates ability to work independently and collaborates with all department members. Answers all inquiries promptly and appropriately. Delegates information requests and therapeutic decisions as appropriate. Demonstrates ability to tactfully handle difficult situations. Difficult situation are identified and appropriate background information is collected. Decisions to delegate resolution of appropriate problems are demonstrated. Demonstrates competency in selected psychomotor skills. Knowledge of aseptic technique is utilized in the reconstitution and preparation of IV medications. Calculations for and delivery of IV additive solutions as appropriate. Demonstrates competence in regards to compounding procedures for medications such as emulsions, liquids, powder and ointments, calculations, weighing, measuring, and mixing of ingredients, repackaging, labeling and recordkeeping. Uses such equipment as graduate, balance, mortars, pestles and funnels. Follows all procedures related to Clean Room; completes Clean Room competencies. Uses Meditech as it was designed and with efficiency to meet the goals of the department. Review all orders for accuracy and completeness. Pull medications to fill orders, accurately and in a timely manner. Notifies Pharmacist that medications are ready for double check. Delivers medications within department turn around time. Prepares or prints labels as needed. Enters charges and credits accurately. Under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist, prepares medication for distribution. Sorts, searches and inputs medication order information into the computerized pharmacy system. Completes billing accurately and in a timely manner. Exchanges unit dose cart accurately and efficiently. Ensures that patient medications are brought from home and are recorded and stored in the proper place. Processes narcotic requisitions and distributes medications to nursing station. Obtains proper signatures. Obtains Pharmacist verification before distribution to the patient unit. Makes rounds of the nursing units regularly and in a timely manner. Prints stop order list and gives to Pharmacist for review. Orders drugs from wholesaler as well as direct from manufacturer as required, with the approval of the Director or his/her designee. Orders for hospital/clinic and bills as appropriate. Completes department requisitions for correct billing. {purchase orders are filled out as appropriate. Recordkeeping and filling completed in a timely manner. Adds needed meds to order list when supplies are low. Orders drugs via Cardinal system and other wholesaler suppliers as needed. Checks for best pricing for each drug ordered. Receives, prices, and stocks all orders from wholesalers and manufacturers. Orders are tagged and stocked in an appropriate time frame. Shortages in stock are identified and replaced. Maintains order records. Inventories IV area and storage room, restocks and organizes shelves. Processes requisitions daily for management approval. Maintains narcotic records as required. Organizes and processes outdated or overstocked medications to ship back to manufacturers for credit. Outdated medications are identified and removed to outdated stock area. Paperwork is prepared for crediting returns. Arrangements made for return to manufacturers or wholesalers as appropriate. Organizes workday and prioritizes to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency. Responds to changes in work schedules as necessary; uses time to departmental advantage; works on special projects. Strives to make good use of time; assists others as requested; reports inability to complete assigned duties. Responds to emergency and STAT situations effectively and efficiently. Keeps department work areas and stock rooms in a neat, clean and orderly manner. Cleans and organizes the laminar flow hood and IV working area following infection control procedures. Daily work areas are kept clean and orderly. Stock areas are organized and kept within fire code regulations. Contributes to cost containment efforts in the department. Stock and supplies are ordered in economic order quantities. Overstocked items are identified and returned as appropriate. Ideas and suggestions for cost savings are offered when identified. Identifies a problem and assists in their resolution as related to safety, sanitation and maintenance of the environment. Knowledge of right to know law is demonstrated. Knowledge of location and content of Material Safety Data Sheets id demonstrated. Demonstrates ability to balance assignment while maintaining flexibility as needs change. Actively participates with suggestions for improvement. Willingly expresses ideas. Conducts monthly nursing unit inspections as assigned and maintains records. Monthly nursing unit inspections checklist is filled out within the appropriate timeframe. Problems identified in the inspection process are resolved and communicated to the supervising pharmacist or designee. Participates in development, attainment and evaluation of department goals. Participation is documented. Participates on committees and CQI teams as assigned. Supports department Quality Improvement efforts. QI assignments are updated and complete. Follows department goals and supports problem resolution efforts. Demonstrates self-directed learning and participates in continuing education. Knowledge base growth is demonstrated. Attends in-service and continuing education programs. Performs other duties as necessary or as assigned, i.e., mail, etc. RATING: Chemo Therapy: a. Completes competency training. b. Accurately prepares medication for Pharmacist to check. c. Prepares billing statements for EMMC. d. Maintains exposure logs and records required. e. Observes all hazardous material safety measures. f. Enters all orders into Meditech.
