The Legacy of Helen & Scott Nearing, Icons of the Modern Homesteading Movement – A Master Gardener Volunteer Program

Woodlawn, in collaboration with the University of Maine Cooperation Extension Master Gardener Program, presents Warren Berkowitz, manager of the Good Life Center, a nonprofit organization that promotes the legacy of the Nearings and maintains their last homestead in Harborside, Maine, will lead a discussion of the importance of the Nearing’s legacy and their contribution to the organic gardening movement, as well as their social activism, economic justice work, and vegetarianism. The presentation and discussion will include a slide show, some video clips of the Nearings, and a review of the mission and educational programming of the Good Life Center.
