Blue Hill Public Library
5 Parker Point Rd, Blue Hill, ME, 04614

New members are invited to the first meeting of the season of the Blue Hill Public Library’s monthly book group, “Readings on Race,” on Saturday September 8th from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. The group will be discussing chapter 8 of Sherri Mitchell’s book, Sacred Instructions: Indigenous Wisdom for Living Spirit-Based Change. The entire book is recommended reading, however.

Drawing from ancestral knowledge, as well as her experience as an attorney and activist, in her book Sherri Mitchell addresses some of the most crucial issues of our day, such as environmental protection environmental justice and human rights. Chapter 8 is about “decolonizing the mind.”

Surry resident Kate Mrozicki facilitates the group. Kate is a farmer who believes in the power of difficult conversations to change our reality. She got to practice those conversations during years of working for The Food Project in Boston and now raising small children in Surry. This event is free and everyone is welcome. Books will be available at the library to check out in advance. For more information on the readings, call the library at 374-5515.
