On Wednesday, January 30th at 7:00PM, the Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Maine will hold a preview at the Blue Hill Public Library of their upcoming production, Iolanthe. The preview will feature live performances of some of the music in the show and a discussion of the story by long-time BHPL opera expert David Porter.
Iolanthe, or The Peer and the Peri, is a comic opera with music by Arthur Sullivan and libretto by W.S. Gilbert. It will be performed at the Grand in Ellsworth, February 8-10 & 15-17. Cast members David Porter and Joe Marshall (title character of The Lord Chancellor in Iolanthe) will lead the discussion with personal reflections from Iolanthe director, Dorothy Alf-Wheatcraft. Musical director Sandy Blanchette will play the piano.
