Learn how a tree becomes a salad bowl with Mount Desert Island woodworker Danielle Rose Byrd on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at the Wilson Museum’s Hutchins Education Center. Feel free to bring your lunch and join the Castine Woman’s Club for their monthly lunchtime meeting at noon followed by Danielle’s green woodworking demonstration at 1 p.m. Hand tool techniques will be discussed using examples of both finished and in-process projects. Decoration and design methods will be examined, showing how simple patterns and unconventional tools can be used to produce pleasing results. The meeting and program are both open to the public and free of charge.

Danielle Rose Byrd, originally from Rumford ME and a 2005 graduate of College of the Atlantic, has been a member of the Lie-Nielsen Toolworks Hand Tool Event Staff since 2014, traveling the country teaching hand tool woodworking techniques. Her work has been shown at various galleries around the state and in 2012 was featured in Downeast Magazine’s Best of Maine issue. The author of several articles, Danielle also teaches bowl carving from her shop on MDI.
