The Blue Hill Public Library has a new exhibit in the children’s Larchwood case for the month of March: Japanese Bookplates. On display will be individual pages from a rare loose leaf book entitled Bookplates in Japan, edited by Shozo Saito, from the collection of Jennifer Lapham. With an opening essay written in English about the history of ex-libris in Japan, the pages feature colorful wood block printed bookplates. Many of the images are bright and playful, featuring wildlife and flowers. Others show landscapes, ships and traditional images from Japanese culture. The exhibit will be on display and available during library hours through March 29th. For more information call the library at 374-5515.
