The Grand’s Weekly CineGrand series– a series of the best of the recent films, from both the Hollywood studios and independents, all playing Tuesday evenings at 7:30 pm as well as a closed-captioned screening on Wednesday afternoons on the Coastal Eye Care Screen at The Grand in Ellsworth- continues its new Spring season on Tuesday, March 27th and Wednesday March 28th with a film featuring a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nominated performance from Willem Dafoe- “The Florida Project.” Set on a stretch of highway just outside the imagined utopia of Disney World, the film follows six-year-old Moonee and her rebellious mother Halley over the course of a single summer. The two live week to week at “The Magic Castle,” a budget motel managed by Bobby (Willem Dafoe), whose stern exterior hides a deep reservoir of kindness and compassion. Despite her harsh surroundings, the precocious and ebullient Moonee has no trouble making each day a celebration of life. Warm, winning and gloriously alive, Sean Baker’s critically-acclaimed film is a deeply moving and unforgettably poignant look at childhood. With newcomers Brooklynn Prince and Bria Vinaitte. (2017. US 1 hr, 55 min. Directed by Sean Baker. R.) Tickets for this General Admission presentation are $8 for Adults, $7 for Seniors/Students (15 and under) and $6 Grand Members (as well as Matinee screenings).
