BUCKSPORT’S WEDNESDAY ON MAIN, generously sponsored by Darling’s of Augusta, Bangor and Ellsworth, and The Town of Bucksport, kicks off its 2nd Annual Music Documentary Film Series in high style, with the brilliant, uplifting and poignant film, “Miss Sharon Jones!”

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 2018, ALAMO THEATRE, 85 MAIN ST, BUCKSPORT, 6:30 PM

Sharon Jones, whose determination and grit took her, belatedly, finally, to fame – but not much fortune. Always told she was never good enough (“you’re too black, too short, too old”); Sharon finally broke through as a renowned soul singer, hailed as a modern-day female James Brown.

Dreams never expire, but sometimes they are deferred. Miss Sharon Jones follows the talented and gregarious singer of the Grammy nominated R&B band “Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings.” In the most challenging year of her life, Sharon Jones confronts pancreatic cancer. As she struggles to find her health and voice again, the film intimately uncovers the mind and spirit of a powerful woman determined to regain the explosive singing career that eluded her for 50 years. This fiery soul singer’s comet streaked across our skies and disappeared too soon, leaving a legacy of funk and soul that still gladdens our hearts.
