Advance Care and Estate Planning Presentation & Workshop

Healthy Peninsula’s “Choices That Matter” campaign and the Blue Hill Public Library will sponsor two events on estate planning and advance healthcare directives in February. On Wednesday, February 6th, from 5:30 to 7:00 PM, Rebecca Sargent, of the law firm Jones, Kuriloff & Sargent, will present, “Estate Planning Basics: What Must You Do to Protect Your Family and Finances.” Jones, Kuriloff & Sargent, LLC specializes in “all things related to estate planning, including drafting trusts and wills, powers of attorney, elder law, probate, trustee services, real estate transactions, and other related matters.”

Participants will hear about estate planning strategies to give themselves and family members the legal resources to be prepared for illness, incapacity and death. Topics will include Powers of Attorney, Advanced Care Directives and, Wills and Trusts, including why everyone should have these documents and what to consider in drafting them.

This presentation will be followed up by a “Choices That Matter” workshop on Saturday, Feb. 16 from 9:00 AM to noon, led by local retired doctor, Susan Ostertag and retired clinical psychologist, Barbara Sinclair, where participants can work on planning their advance care directives and ask any questions they may have. The Choices That Matter campaign is a project aimed at encouraging people in all our communities to consider and implement end-of-life planning and discuss their wishes with their family and healthcare providers.
