The Atlantic, a sailboat designed by Starling Burgess in 1928, is 30’ 7” in length, with a traditional balanced hull that is beautiful, both in and out of the water. Atlantics are competitively raced at five yacht clubs in Maine, Connecticut and New York. Each year one of these yacht clubs hosts the Atlantic Nationals Championship Regatta.
Kollegewidgwok Yacht Club (KYC) last hosted the Atlantic Nationals in 2012 with 40 boats participating, bringing over 200 out of town guests to Blue Hill. This year we are very excited to host the 2017 Atlantic Nationals, expecting at least 35 boats, with more than 140 local and visiting sailors participating during the four-day regatta.
In the 2011 Atlantic Nationals, KYC’s Ian Evans, took home the first place trophy on Try Again. He was followed by KYC’s Bill Barton, taking home the first place trophy in 2013 and then again in 2016 on One-4-All.
