Surry Arts and Events at the Barn
We are primarily a performing arts center on the coast of Maine near Acadia National Park.
We offer a range of musical genres from classical to Jazz, to ethnic performances that might include Brazilian, Flamenco, Klezmer, Middle Eastern. We have also incorporated visual arts
and featured local artists as well some from Saint Petersburg, Russia.
In recent years we have featured, ballet, modern dance, new music, Charlie Chaplin movies and more.
We think of ourselves as a unique community resource. Our venue is an old Maine Barn with a Steinway grand piano. The fine acoustics, character and intimate feel of the Barn has brought people together with intimacy and charm sine 1965.
Finally, the Barn is special indeed when one considers the long and far reaching international history. Joint Festivals with Russian, Japanese, Georgian, French and Canadian , German and French musician As well as glowing photo essay articles in the NYT and People and Downeast Magazines stand out.. The Russians poetically titled our exchange programs People of the Earth Together. Pretty awesome for an old Maine Barn with an incredible legacy!
The Gatherings
The Gatherings is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a mission to foster community through sharing, cooperation, learning and the arts.
Our vision is to create a vibrant, multi-use space where anyone can find opportunities for connecting with others, the arts, learning, real food, entertainment and good health.
The building has a big meeting room downstairs with an adjoining small kitchen and café. A small co-working space is also being set up. The recently renovated second floor, opening in early 2018, will have a game / craft room and another large open room that can be used for activities such as yoga or meditation.
