
Trained as a botanical artist, Carolyn Butera lives on the Blue Hill Peninsula where she paints watercolor portraits of marine life. Her collection of highly detailed, watercolor “portrait paintings” of blue mussel Mytilus edulis shells from Downeast Maine is scheduled for solo exhibition in the galleries of the Blue Hill Library in February 2026. Her following collection will feature portrait paintings from Sicily of Mytilus galloprovincialis, one of three closely related species in the Mytilus edulis complex of blue mussels.
Carolyn is a member of the following: American Society of Marine Artists, American Society of Botanical Artists, New England Society of Botanical Artists, the Deer Isle Artists Association and serves as an instructor for Acadia Senior College.
