Film: A Streetcar Named Desire

The Friends of the Blue Hill Public Library’s second-Thursday-of-the-month film series will continue on Thursday, December 13th at 7:00 PM with A Streetcar Named Desire (1951), directed by Elia Kazan and starring Vivien Leigh and Marlon Brando.

Based on the play by Tennessee Williams, the story follows former school teacher Blanche DuBois as she leaves small-town Mississippi and moves in with Stella Kowalski and her husband Stanley in New Orleans. A flirtatious Southern-belle, Blanche causes problems for Stella and Stanley, who themselves have a volatile relationship. This screening will show the complete cut, including scenes originally struck from the film.
