University of Maine Museum of Art: Bringing Contemporary Art to the Region

University of Maine Museum of Art Executive Director and Curator, George Kinghorn, will offer a presentation highlighting the museum’s role in bringing modern and contemporary art to Maine at the Blue Hill Public Library on Wednesday, February 21st at 1:00 PM. He will provide an introduction to the museum’s collection and talk about upcoming exhibitions featuring artists of national reputation. He will also talk about the array of educational programs and events offered that enrich community members’ understanding of the visual arts. There will be plenty of time for Q&A on anything to do with the museum or the museum field in general.
George Kinghorn has been at UMMA since 2008. Prior to that he spent nine years at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Jacksonville, Florida where he served in several positions including Chief Curator and Director. He received his Master of Fine Arts Degree in Visual Arts from Michigan State University.
UMMA is an academic art museum focusing on exhibiting and collecting modern and contemporary art. The Museum presents approximately twelve changing contemporary art exhibitions each year in five distinct galleries, and maintains a permanent collection of over 4,000 works of art, with an emphasis on work from 1945 to the present.
