The small, quiet town of Penobscot was one of the earliest settlements on the Peninsula. The town encompasses 46.5 square miles that include two small mountains, two large ponds, a ridge of fertile farmland, several blueberry fields, a peat bog, a large freshwater pond, and more than 18 miles of shoreland on Northern Bay and the Bagaduce River, and is a popular destinations for birding, leisure fishing, kayaking and boating.
Incorporated in 1787, the town remains a treasure trove of the region’s history. The Penobscot Historical Society and the town host an annual celebration of the town during Penobscot Days in mid-summer.
