A Firearms Hunter Safety Course will be hosted by the Blue Hill Heritage Trust. This
course will be offered as an Online Course with an in-person Field Day.
This is the Maine Department of Fish and Wildlife Certified Hunter Safety Program.
Students complete the online course prior to attending an in-person Field Day. The
Field Day involves discussions and demonstrations by instructors during class and field
experiences. This class is offered for anyone applying for a hunting license for the first
time, or also as a “brush up” course.
There are two (2) parts to the course:
Part 1 has two options:
Students can complete the Online Course at hunter-ed.com/maine. The cost to register
for the online course is $24.95. Upon successful completion of the online course,
students can use their course completion voucher.
Part 2:
Field Day skills and exam session. Students must complete the Online section (above)
prior to the Field Day. Volunteer instructors provide valuable information to new hunters
including insight into the sport of hunting, resources and support. In-person courses
provide students with the opportunity to ask questions of instructors and gain further
guidance. The Field Day includes instruction and practical exercises in: Survival/first
aid, Landowner relations, Hunter ethics, Maine hunting laws, safe firearms handling,
map and compass, and outdoor survival.
At the Field Day, students must demonstrate to the instructor that they can safely
handle a firearm, and must participate in workshop and session activities, bring a
survival kit and pass a 50-question exam with a score of at least 70%.

The Field Day will be held at Craig Brook Fish Hatchery on October 19th 8:30am-
4:30pm.

Participants must be at least 10 years of age and all minors will be required to have a
signed parental consent form at the Field Day session. Individuals that are 16 years or
younger are required to complete both sections of the course to obtain their license.
