Kids 8 years of age and up are invited to a workshop with author and educator Jess Garrett to play mad scientist and explore chemical reactions with Lego bricks, at the Blue Hill Public Library on Saturday, November 16th at 2:00 PM. Participants will get to mix mysterious chemicals, and find out—will there be color changes, gasses released, explosions? Then they will explore what really happens inside a chemical reaction by building the molecules with LEGO bricks! All materials will be provided.

Jessica Garrett, science educator and co-author of OH ICK! 114 Science Experiments Guaranteed to Gross You Out!, helped develop this workshop while teaching at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She says she’s excited to come back to her home state (and visit her high school pal – our very own Rich Boulet, Library Director) to share her love of science and engineering.

This program is free but advance registration is required, which can be done on the library’s interactive calendar at www.bhpl.net, or by calling 374-5515. The program is made possible by a grant from “Cornerstones of Science,” a nonprofit that provides libraries with resources and programs to stimulate public interest in science. For more information, call the library at 374-5515
