DESCRIPTION:The tenth annual Wings\, Waves and Woods birding and art festiv
 al takes place May 20-22 on Deer Isle. The island attracts both avian spri
 ng migrants\, offers a variety of wintering sea ducks on its shores and is
  home to an unusually rich mix of artists and craftspeople. Organized by I
 sland Heritage Trust (IHT)\, this 3-day event that offers dozens of activi
 ties—many of them free---in some of the loveliest settings on the coast 
 of Maine.\n\nThis family-friendly festival is the perfect venue for Mainer
 s to explore a new (or perhaps favorite) corner of their home state\, thou
 gh the festival does draw visitors from across the nation who appreciate i
 ts informal\, "down home" flavor. Start the day with an early morning bird
  walk guided by the best birders in the area\, then choose from an array o
 f boat trips\, art demos/workshops and new offerings like a 20-minute flig
 ht over the island for a "bird's eye view"! Join us Saturday at the island
 's favorite cafe for a special Birders' Supper ($22 pp inclusive). After y
 ou've tucked away a slice of homemade pie\, stroll right next door to hear
  special guest\, Doug Hitchcox\, Staff Naturalist for Maine Audubon. Five 
 years ago Hitchcox observed 314 species of birds in Maine\, in a personal 
 "Big Year" effort. He'll talk about some of the major changes and fluctuat
