Kneisel Hall teaching artists will lead two interactive programs, bringing music to life through interpretation at the Blue Hill Public Library: one for kids on Tuesday, September 18th at 3:00 PM, and one for adults on Wednesday, September 19th at 7:00 PM. At the kids’ event, children will participate in creative, hands-on activities that will help them articulate their personal reactions to music. They will also be introduced to the process of bringing a written score to life and will have an opportunity to create and perform their own graphic scores. This program is intended for kids ages 7-12, but everyone is welcome. Children under 8 must be accompanied by a caregiver.
At the adult event, musicians will play a program where each piece is paired with a recitation from literature, focusing on the role interpretation plays in creating musical pieces. The following pieces will be played with the following literature excerpts: Beethoven, String Quartet Op. 18, No. 1, 2nd movement (paired with Romeo and Juliet tomb scene); Bartok: Romanian Folk Dances (paired with Romanian folktale); and Czinka Panna: Notaja (paired with the poetry of Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz).
These concerts are part of the semi-annual “Kneisel Hall Blue Hill-Together in Music” residency, a long-term outreach initiative dedicated to sparking a creative dialogue between Kneisel Hall musicians and members of the Blue Hill community. For more information contact the library at 374-5515.
