Tour of the Meadow: Native Plant Experiments

9/10/2024
4:30 pm - 6:30 pm

led by Tate Bushell, Land & Garden Preserve

Little Long Pond, Seal Harbor

*pre-registration required*

The tour will take place in the meadow restoration trial plots at the Little Long Pond natural lands. The 13-acre meadow is the site of 19th-century agricultural fields managed as open vistas by the Rockefeller family for approximately 100 years.

Since 2018, the Land & Garden Preserve has taken an interest in maximizing the meadow’s ecological potential and has carried out small ‘restoration’ trials using quart container stock and seeds (all native, mostly grown in house). Tate will discuss successes and failures that participants can learn from. Anyone interested in creating a meadow habitat on their property will benefit from hearing some of the lessons learned in managing this site.

Be prepared for up to 1 mile of walking; transportation can be provided for a portion for those with mobility restrictions. Some walking will take place in the meadow. Click here to pre-register (required). In lieu of a workshop fee, participants are invited to make a donation to Land & Garden Preserve.
