SUMMARY:Roads\, Rain\, and a Couple Thousand Amphibians: Call it a Big Nigh
 t!
DESCRIPTION:Join Blue Hill Heritage Trust and Island Heritage Trust for ano
ther Friends from the Field Webinar!\n\nEvery spring\, conditions come tog
ether to form one of the most eruptive wildlife migrations in the world -
right in our backyards. The warm\, rainy nights of spring bring frogs and
salamanders out in droves\, creating what is referred to as "big nights".
However\, many of these migrants face trouble as they meet one of the newe
st habitats on the landscape - roads. This talk will introduce the communi
ty science project Maine Big Night\, a project that anyone can participate
in to collect data and help migrating amphibians in roadways. Amphibian n
atural history\, results from previous years\, and compelling stories will
also be included.\n\nGreg LeClair is a PhD student at the University of M
aine where he is developing genetic methods for monitoring rare wildlife.
He is also the creator and coordinator of Maine Big Night\, a community sc
ience project focused on gathering data on and protecting migrating amphib
ians in Maine\n\nUse the following link to register: https://us02web.zoom.
