 urrent research on a variety of methods that may be useful to control jump
 ing worms in nursery or garden bed settings. Spread via transport of mulch
  and nursery stock\, jumping worms convert the top 2 inches of soil into l
 oose granules that are susceptible to erosion and that make it difficult f
 or some native plant species to germinate and become established.\n\nDr. F
 relich is Director of the University of Minnesota Center for Forest Ecolog
 y. He has authored 210 publications\, including major works for Cambridge 
 University Press and Oxford University Press. His current research interes
 ts include climate change in temperate and boreal forests and large-scale
