Online Presentation: Human Exploration of the Deep Ocean

Surry summer resident, Dr. Millard F. (Mike) Coffin, PhD, will give an online presentation about “Human Exploration of the Deep Ocean,” sponsored by the Blue Hill Public Library on Thursday, August 20th at 7:00 PM. Professor Coffin is a marine geophysicist at the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS) in Hobart, Tasmania. This talk will recount the history of 20th and 21st century deep ocean exploration via human-occupied vehicles, including the presenter’s experience aboard Japan’s Shinkai 6500, capable of diving to 6,500 meters (4 miles). The presentation is free and open to everyone, but advance registration is required to receive the link to join via Zoom.
