SUMMARY:Making Strides 5k for Autism Awareness and Advocacy
DESCRIPTION:On October 22nd the Blue Hill Peninsula Making Strides organiza
 tion will host its 9th annual 5k fundraiser. The non-profit organization\,
  which raises money to help support the needs of students on the autism sp
 ectrum\, serves all schools and families across the Blue Hill Peninsula\, 
 Deer Isle\, Stonington and Bucksport. This year’s race will be dedicated
  to the memory of Travis Astbury\, who passed away this spring. Travis was
  a dedicated father who was an advocate for autism awareness and for those
  he loved affected by autism. A portion of the proceeds from the event wil
 l be put into a scholarship fund in his honor.\n\nThe 5k fun run will begi
 n at the Blue Hill Consolidated School and continue through town\, out the
  Parker Point Road and back to the school. Participants may either pay a r
 egistration fee or get pledges from friends and neighbors. Day-of registra
 tion\, and t-shirt pick up for preregistered participants\, will be held f
 rom 9-9:45am in the entrance hall at BHCS. The race will begin with the wa
 lkers at 10am and runners shortly thereafter at 10:10am.\n\nChildcare will
  be available at the school during the race thanks to the school’s PTF g
 roup. After the race\, Greenspeed of Blue Hill will provide lunch to the p
 articipants\, and racers will be entered into a drawing for prizes. Lunch 
 will be free to volunteers and race participants and will be available for
  purchase to all others.\n\nBeginning October 17th\, a silent auction tabl
 e will be set up at the school with donated items from area businesses. Co
 mmunity members are invited to come and bid on these items throughout the 
 week. Bidding will close at 11am on October 22nd.\n\nAll participants can 
 register and download forms on the Making Strides Maine website: www.makin
 gstrides.me. To guarantee a t-shirt\, please register by October 10th.
