DESCRIPTION:The Blue Hill Co-op presents Growing Local\, a 2014 film collab
 oration between Seedlight Pictures and Maine Farmland Trust.\nWhile “buy
 ing local” is on the rise\, the stories in Growing Local make clear that
  small farms and access to locally produced food is not a sure thing. In t
 hree short vignettes meet young farmers who\, on risky sweat-equity\, have
  revitalized a famously fertile piece of farmland into a thriving communit
 y food hub\, an artisanal butcher who helps us better understand how healt
 hier\, thoughtful meat production can be supported and sustained\, and fat
 her/son organic dairy farmers struggling to keep their family farm going a
 nd in the family. These poignant stories help us understand the interconne
 cted fates of Maine’s small farms\, consumers and the local food movemen
 t.\nIn addition to the film\, the Blue Hill Co-op encourages you to view t
 he Lexicon of Sustainability in our Co-op Cafe during the entire month of 
 October. This project illuminates sustainable agriculture and supports the
  conversations surrounding how people eat\, what they buy\, and where thei
 r responsibility begins for creating a healthier\, safer food system.
