SUMMARY:GALLERY: On Balancing | Art in Suspension
DESCRIPTION:Artist’s Reception: Friday\, September 18th | 5pm - 7pm\n\nAt
a moment when certainty often feels elusive\, mobiles remind us that inst
ability is not necessarily disorder. They reveal beauty in adaptation\, re
sponsiveness\, and change. Their slow choreography of movement encourages
close observation and patience\, offering a counterpoint to the speed and
distraction of contemporary life. In this way\, the mobile is not only a s
ignificant artistic form but also a compelling lens through which to consi
der the complexities of the present moment. Suspended between motion and s
tillness\, they offer a visual language for uncertainty\, adaptation\, con
nection\, and joy.\n\nThe exhibition brings together artists and audiences
around works that ask us to slow down and notice what is happening betwee
n things: the pull of gravity\, the movement of air\, the tension between
opposing forces\, and the surprising moments of harmony that emerge when n
othing stays exactly where it is. Rather than offering certainty\, On Bala
ncing embraces the conditions of change. Its works remind us that equilibr
ium can be dynamic\, that fragility can be a form of strength\, and that j
oy can be found in the continual work of finding our balance.\n\nThis exhi
 bition is itself a collaboration—and a balancing act—between Working L
oose founder Em Gift and longtime collaborator Lisa Foti-Straus. Their cre
ative dialogue began more than fifteen years ago at Gravel &amp\; Gold in
San Francisco and has continued through a shared appreciation for the mobi
le as a playful\, dynamic\, and deeply expressive art form.\n\nArtists Inc
lude: Lisa Foti-Straus\, John Gnorski\, Annie Costello Brown\, Dove Hornbu
ckle\, Max Simon\, Christopher Baker\, and Eleanor Anderson\n\nOn view Sep
tember 18 through November 7\, 2026\, the exhibition opens with a receptio
 n on Friday\, September 18\, from 5–7pm at Working Loose\, 49 Main Stree
 t\, Blue Hill\, Maine.
