SUMMARY:Dolly's Coffeehouse
DESCRIPTION:Big Moose will be the featured performers at Dolly’s Coffeeho
use at the First Congregational Church of Blue Hill\, Saturday\, March 7th
7:00-9:00pm. While Big Moose is primarily a contradance band the group al
so performs at smaller venues\, events\, tributes\, and even church servic
 es throughout the season. Fiddles\, mandolin\, flute\, pennywhistles\, and
even banjos trade off on melody with support from a rousing rhythm sectio
 n including guitars\, piano\, bass\, and bodhran. Contradance repertoire d
raws heavily upon jigs and reels from Ireland\, Scotland\, Cape Breton\, Q
uebec\, and Old-time American traditions while smaller events may feature
more polkas\, waltzes\, airs\, and tunes from various ethnic traditions. M
embers come from Mount Desert Island as well as Ellsworth\, Surry\, and th
e Blue Hill Peninsula.\n\nThe first hour will be open mic\, where everyone
is welcome to perform: music\, mime\, poetry\, dance\, etc. Performers ar
e requested to arrive a few minutes early to sign up. There will be a brie
f intermission with refreshments\, followed by Big Moose.\n\nDonations ben
efit the Dolly Fisher Emergency Fund\, which provides emergency fuel\, foo
d\, clothing\, and utility help for households on the Blue Hill Peninsula
and informing the public about other available resources. Held downstairs
in Fellowship Hall\, come listen and join the fun. Admission is by free-wi
ll offering. FMI: contact 374-2891.\n\nPhoto courtesy of Jesup Memorial Li
