SUMMARY:Coding Workshop for All Ages at the Blue Hill Public Library
DESCRIPTION:Local programmer and self-described “tech geek” Mike Wolf w
ill present a coding workshop for all ages at the Blue Hill Public Library
on Saturday\, September 22nd at 2:00 PM. The workshop is sponsored by the
library and is free but space is limited\, so registration is required\,
either on the library’s web calendar at www.bhpl.net or by calling the l
ibrary at 374-5515. Participants can bring their own laptops\, or use one
supplied by the library—please note upon registration if you will bring
your own computer.\n\nParticipants will learn how to make very basic “ap
ps” that they can run on their computers\, tablets or phones\, or how to
set up a basic web page\, working at their own pace. According to Mike\,
“To write your first app or put up your first web page all you need is a
computer\, basic computer skills\, and a little more than an hour.”\n\n
Mike says that he has found programming computers fun\, from when he first
learned on the old main frame computers\, to now when “it's easy and al
most everyone has a computer in their pocket that's close to a billion tim
es more powerful than the ones I first programmed!” If there is interest
\, follow-up sessions may be scheduled.\n\nMike Wolf has lived in Blue Hil
l for nearly 20 years. He cofounded the “Blue Hill Hackers\,” a group
of tech enthusiasts and technologically curious people who meet at the lib
rary every Monday night to work together\, show off new cool tech and answ
er questions from newcomers. He's also a regular helper at the library's T
ech Tuesday Helpdesk. This event is sponsored by the library and is open t
 o everyone.
