Brooksville and Isle au Haut artist Galen Davis will exhibit landscape paintings at the Blue Hill Public Library for the month of November in a show entitled, Islands and Ocean, Bridges and Waterways. The show includes paintings in pastel and oils of local landscapes and seascapes, as well as several portraits of family, and images of homes.
In her paintings, Davis explores the way patterns of land, wind, and sea draw a viewer into a landscape. The sweep of bridges or land masses, clouds, and light, provide a sense of movement. For Davis, this focus conveys a particular intimacy with, and understanding of, place.
Galen Davis is a landscape painter working in pastel and oils. Born and raised in southern Maine, she has lived in Brooksville since 1998 and is a life-long summer resident of Isle au Haut. While largely self-taught, Galen’s art education consists of many years of workshops and advice from generous artists. She has shown her work at the Turtle Gallery in Deer Isle and Isalos Fine Art Gallery, formerly of Stonington, among others.
The show will be in the library’s Britton Gallery and Roland Howard Room, available for viewing during library hours, November 2nd to 30th subject to the Howard Room schedule. For more information contact the library at 374-5515.
