Art and Science of Tide Pools

August 6, 2022 @ 10:00 am – 11:00 am
Wadsworth Cove Beach, Castine, ME 04421, USA

Join Blue Hill Heritage Trust, Compass Rose Books, Witherle Library, and local artist, Kristy Cunnane, for a fun tidepooling event for kids! We will explore the tidepools at the Back Shore Beach in Castine and learn about barnacles, crabs, periwinkles and various other tide pool creatures. We will also do an art activity and each child will make their own accordion book with drawings of the creatures we find in the tide pools. Kids are invited to take home copies of Life on Intertidal Rocks: A Guide to the Marine Life of the Rocky North Atlantic Coast, colored pencils, and paper to continue their exploration after the event is over!

Please wear sturdy closed-toed shoes that you don’t mind getting wet, and bring sunscreen and a water bottle.
Space is limited so please register with landere@bluehillheritagetrust.org

This event is co-sponsored by Compass Rose Books, Castine’s independent bookstore, offering a selection of books for young readers about tide pools and our coastal ecosystems. Witherle Memorial Library is also a co-sponsor.
